TEEN
PROGRAM

If you enjoy science, teaching people, and the environment, ECHO Aquarium and Science Center has multiple ways for teenagers and young adults to get involved and make a difference.

The E-Team
What is it?

Our teen leadership program, The E-Team, is a way for teens to directly engage visitors through science-related activities, hands-on crafts, and interpretation of exhibit areas. Teens also get the opportunity to assist with special events and develop community-related programs. In addition to helping ECHO fulfill its mission, participants will gain valuable science content knowledge, job skills, a stipend of $20/week, social interactions with new peers, and leadership experience. For a complete description download the E-Team Member Description.

Who is it for?

The E-Team is for teens in the Burlington area entering their Freshman and Sophomore years of high school who are able to commit to involvement for the entire academic year. Individuals must be available on Wednesday afternoons between 4 and 6 p.m. for leadership and content trainings AND to work with the public for one (1) four-hour shift on either Saturday or Sunday. Mornings shifts are from 9:30am - 1:30pm and afternoons shifts are from 1pm - 5pm.

Applying to E-Team? We look forward to seeing your application! Each spring we recruit for our next year's E-Team. Please send us your application (see link below) by May 19th.

Teen Volunteers

If you are 16 or over consider becoming an education or animal care volunteer. Every semester we have many volunteer positions that are important to making ECHO a leading educational institution and valuable community resource. ECHO Education Interpreters help the public learn about the many animals found here at the Aquarium and in the local environment as well as the fascinating culture and history of the Lake Champlain Basin. ECHO Animal-Care volunteers assist our staff with caring for and managing the more than 70 species of animals in our collection.

Develop skills in working with people of all ages, help interpret our exhibit galleries, discovery spaces, and live animals and help ECHO maintain the commitment to delighting and educating all of our guests. Volunteers help bring the exhibits alive for all of our visitors.

Please consider volunteering! If you have any questions, or would like additional information, please contact: Amanda Van Vranken, Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@echovermont.org or 802.864.1848 ext. 116.

Youth Conferences

ECHO is committed to promoting youth engagement, learning, and action. Our youth conference series helps students learn strategies to be effective agents of change in their community and across the globe, network with other student groups, and learn to use resources at ECHO and other institutions. These conferences are focused on high school and college-age student groups.

If you are interested in getting your group involved, please contact: Nina Ridhibhinyo, Group Programs Coordinator at e2@echovermont.org or 802.864.1848 ext. 142.
